PAINTER RADIO

A 4 week Parametric modeling & Solid works- course at Advanced Product Design,
Designed for the brand Caparol.
UmeƄ Institute of Design 2009.

BACKGROUND

Radio for painters

Given the task to design a job site radio I decided to design a radio for painters. These working environments are less noisy and allow you to listen together from the same sound source.
Disassembling
An exsisting radio was disassembled and carefully studied. The existing internal components where firmly measured and reference volumes was modeled in SolidWorks.

IDEATION

Functionality for painters

1st brainstorm around the
equipment used while painting and what functions in a radio could be
appreciated.

Caparol identity

Working from basic 2D sketches simplifying the lines of the elephant logotype lead to an interesting path.
Then it was time to define the forms and turn the elephant into a working radio.

FINAL WORKING MODEL

Rapid prototyping & milling

Rapid prototyped and milled parts were sanded and painted in black and white.
Assembling

Painted parts and electric components, screwed together and volume, tune, on/off and mp3 plug in was tested. It works!
