METHODOLOGY


Brand analysis


The learning objectives for this project was to try strategic design tools as a method to search for design opportunities. First we looked into the Philips brand.

Philips attributes:

#A human-focused, multi-disciplinary and research-based design.

#Rich interaction, light & sound, minimalistic.

Using a position map to get an overview of the Philips products by looking into their attributes.


USER RESEARCH

Research of current health trends & extremes

In today’s media exposed society, food is in complex relation to our emotional an physiological health. How could you place an intelligent Philips product in this area, that facilitate both physical and emotional aspects?


Participatory observations & interviews

Interviews with people about their relation to food gave insights in their everyday situations, dealing with food.

Trough participatory observations (cooking, eating & shopping) we tried to break down the problems in discussions and brainstorms.



Persona


This method was used to sum up the user insights presented through a fictive stereotype person with food "issues".

A social-cultural effect


Today, social-cultural influence play a decisive role in our relation to food.

Constant exposure of slim female ideal followed by numerous diet recommendations, makes it difficult for individuals to emotionally and physically control their eating.

The actions and reactions on this constant exposure can lead to a
damaged relation to food or in even an eating disorder.





 
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

Can you change your

The focus in the ideation phase was to search of a solution to facilitate the understanding of food and health. The product’s main function would be to build a healthy & long lasting food relation.
